Edubuntu Oct 2012 10.04.3 Updates Hi everyone, We all can use the following process to remove firehol and dansguardian, and upgrade firefox to the latest version available for Edubuntu 10.04. First we'll upgrade firefox: Shut down all running instances of firefox. Plug in the USB stick and open a terminal, navigate to the directory and run: cd /media/CR/edubuntu/ sudo dpkg -i --force-all firefox* sudo apt-get -f install When it prompts to remove flashplugin-installer select "Y" Finally, we want to launch firefox. When it warns that there are incompatible plug-ins, select "Check Now" - this will fail, that's ok, but it won't prompt the next user to check again. Now we want to remove dansguardian and firehol, we won't completely purge them though, in case someone wants to install and debug them in the future they will have some config files to start from: sudo apt-get remove dansguardian firehol Choose "Y" when prompted. Note: firehol is what controls the proxy going through dansguardian, so uninstalling it will stop the system from sending the traffic through dansguardian Note: this does not install flash, but if the computer is online and updates are run at some point, it may pull it in. Last … please copy over the folder called "Manuals" from the flash drive to the Desktop. -- Elizabeth Krumbach // Lyz // pleia2 http://www.princessleia.com
