I am a “Ubuntu Guy”, but I prefer 10.10. I just can’t let go of GNOME 2. I know where everything is, I can customize it in minutes, and I can navigate through the menus with ease. To me, there just isn’t any compelling reason to use anything else. I know it’s rapidly approaching EOL, but then again, think about how many people still use Windows XP. ;)

I will respond to that by first telling a story:

This past weekend I was in the elevator at my building and my neighbor asked me about my Ubuntu shirt. When I told him what it was he said he was using Ubuntu as dual boot on his laptop and that he had just upgraded to 11.10. He “loves it! It never crashes!”

As for me personally? I was never a Gnome user because I found it wasn’t flexible enough to do what I wanted. Unity takes this even further into inflexibility so I remain a Xubuntu user, as I always have been in the Ubuntu world (I used Xfce on Debian before switching to Xubuntu). I will give it a shot on this laptop though with 12.04 because there are a number of improvements this cycle with the latest releases of Unity that I’d at least want to be familiar with as an advocate.
