I am becoming more and more passionate about this topic. I think if we want stronger families, healthier communities, and a stronger America in general, we have to do something about being able to carve out a day of rest for our people. Increasingly, our culture is making it more and more difficult. When my son’s soccer game was scheduled for Mother’s Day afternoon, I thought a line had been crossed. There are many other things as well. Do we really have to have a brat fry for the Scouts on Mother’s Day? Does the Catholic football team need to practice on Sunday morning? Does our local charity shop honestly have to be open on Memorial Day? I enjoy having the shops open on a Sunday as well as the next guy…but at what price does that come? I’d really like to continue this conversation. I can’t be the only one whose Mother’s Day has been foiled by an unnecessary fundraiser or sporting event.
