Oh, and I forgot to mention my interest in using mkusb or mkusb-nox,(cli) similarly to your suggestion of Gnome Disks.

I stole a few moments to enjoy reading about testing today and stumbled my way here after seeing your topic ?somewhere. I forget where I first saw it.

I too am mainly interested in Xubuntu testing albeit, for the future, (busy guy).

It was refreshing and reassuring to hear of an experienced person such as yourself speak to their struggles with WTH!, (my term) is this or, how/what do I do? It is an over-whelming amount of information and, I can only imagine it gets tougher once one tries to actually get the reporting of bugs done right!

Thank you, for the tips, encouragement and your leadership!

Kind Regards!

Thanks, I have indeed used dd many times in the past for this :)

I was reluctant to recommend this in the post since you also have to know the device name (your example called it /dev/sdb, but that could also be a harddrive), dd-ing to the wrong disk would be… very, very bad. It’s much easier to see which one is which in the graphical interface.

I just caught this post in my weekly review of: http://planet.ubuntu.com/.

I thought you and/or your readers would also like to consider the extremely simple ‘dd’ or ‘cat’ method to copy an the *ubuntu ISO’s to a USB key:

chris@CKR-1:~$ time sudo sh -c 'cat ubuntu-15.10-server-amd64.iso > /dev/sdb && sync'

real 1m7.049s
user 0m0.000s
sys 0m0.812s

This timed example was using a USB-3.0 thumb drive.

Hope it helps those who just need a quick CLI option.

Cheers!

I have installed 16.04 2 months ago on the laptop. Till now no problems or surprises. (acer 5050 turion64)
On the PC X64-15.10. Each time I have to remove some programs, when I install new version. I would prefer to have desktop with file, printer network and software center but without particular programs added. Not even orage. Updated settings without the “standard” references (like to parole, which I don’t use at all) would help as well.

I love your work. You saved me a lot of hassle in preparing presentations, collecting literature and communicating with friends and family without spending a lot on the hardware…

Thank you!
