First thing I had to get? A spiffy reversal, as seen on R2D2&#8217;s hostname:<\/p>\n<p>-!- <a href=\"http:\/\/princessleia.com\/modular_r2d2.php\">R2D2<\/a> [~astromech@alderaan.princessleia.com] has joined <a href=\"http:\/\/rainwreck.com\/\">#rainwreck<\/a><\/p>\n<p>From there I built my network.<\/p>\n<p>R2A6: Laptop (Ubuntu Hardy)<br \/>\nR2D2: Primary desktop (Xubuntu Hardy)<br \/>\nHAN-S: Secondary desktop, mostly a movie player (Kubuntu Hardy)<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/princessleia.com\/images\/journalpics\/082008\/u-x-k.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/princessleia.com\/images\/journalpics\/082008\/u-x-k_sm.jpg\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\"><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>..wait, Xubuntu, Kubuntu AND Ubuntu? Yeah, I kept finding it was useful to have one of each around between what I prefer, what I support at work and what I support in the community. Or I might just be insane, the jury is out.<\/p>\n<p>R2Q5: Backups and IRC Bots (Debian Sparc Etch)<br \/>\nR2B1: Firewall (Debian i386 Etch)<br \/>\nR21U: 1U Testing server (Debian i386 Sid)<\/p>\n<p>Hey look, Debian and Ubuntu tie!<\/p>\n<p>Plus my Linodes, a printer and a VoIP phone. On Monday evening I got Nagios2 configured for all the machines it made sense to monitor.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/princessleia.com\/images\/journalpics\/082008\/plcom_nagios.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/princessleia.com\/images\/journalpics\/082008\/plcom_nagios_sm.jpg\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\"><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>Nice.<\/p>\n<p>DNS, DHCP, all looking spiffy. I still lack a good backups infrastructure, which really bit me Tuesday evening &#8211; oops.
