In this role I&#8217;ve joined an awesome team to work on the core infrastructure for the open source <a href=\"http:\/\/www.openstack.org\/\">OpenStack<\/a> project.<\/p>\n<p>On Sunday I flew to Seattle to meet my boss some of the members of the team. In a whirlwind of a trip I was able to not only enjoy social time with my new colleagues, but have some face time to go through some of the workflows and tasks that I&#8217;ll need to focus on in the coming weeks.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, being me, I also squeezed in some tourist time. Just like visiting the mermaid in Copenhagen, I took time on Tuesday morning before work to take a walk over to the landmark-of-the-city, the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Space_Needle\">Space Needle<\/a>!<\/p>\n<div align=\"center\"><a href=\"http:\/\/princessleia.com\/images\/journalpics\/012013\/space_needle.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/princessleia.com\/images\/journalpics\/012013\/space_needle_sm.jpg\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\"><\/a><\/div>\n<p>As I was walking I noticed something else following the same path as I &#8211; monorail tracks. I was happy to learn that the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Seattle_Center_Monorail\">Seattle Center Monorail<\/a> was an option for my return trip and I ended up taking it.<\/p>\n<div align=\"center\"><a href=\"http:\/\/princessleia.com\/images\/journalpics\/012013\/seattle_monorail.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/princessleia.com\/images\/journalpics\/012013\/seattle_monorail_sm.jpg\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\"><\/a><\/div>\n<p>More photos here: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/pleia2\/sets\/72157632538578229\/\">http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/pleia2\/sets\/72157632538578229\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p>I flew home last night and settled back in today. In spite of the cold, I quite enjoyed the little bit I did see of Seattle and hope I can make it back some time in the not too distant future. But I expect my next visit to the Pacific Northwest will be to Portland in April for the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.openstack.org\/summit\/portland-2013\/\">OpenStack Summit<\/a>!
