{"id":8882,"date":"2013-12-21T15:52:59","date_gmt":"2013-12-21T23:52:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/princessleia.com\/journal\/?p=8882"},"modified":"2013-12-21T15:52:59","modified_gmt":"2013-12-21T23:52:59","slug":"your-favorite-fantasy-books","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/princessleia.com\/journal\/2013\/12\/your-favorite-fantasy-books\/","title":{"rendered":"Your favorite fantasy books"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A few years ago I asked for recommendations of <a href=\"http:\/\/princessleia.com\/journal\/?p=2999\">favorite scifi\/fantasy<\/a> books, with the request leaning toward hard scifi.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve made it through a nice chunk of those recommendations, but as I read more these days I&#8217;m finding that I really enjoy balancing non-fiction books I&#8217;m reading with some of the lighter side of scifi and fantasy.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m currently reading <u>The Long Earth<\/u> by Terry Pratchett (big fan!) and Stephen Baxter, and enjoying it thoroughly. To get an idea of what else I like, I just searched through my collection for authors I&#8217;ve already read a fair amount of fantasy-wise:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>David Eddings<\/li>\n<li>Neil Gaiman<\/li>\n<li>Larry Niven<\/li>\n<li>Neal Stephenson<\/li>\n<li>William Gibson<\/li>\n<li>Douglas Adams<\/li>\n<li>Orson Scott Card<\/li>\n<li>Robert A. Heinlein<\/li>\n<li>Frank Herbert<\/li>\n<li>Robert Jordan<\/li>\n<li>Robert Asprin<\/li>\n<li>Roger Zelazny<\/li>\n<li>Anne McCaffrey<\/li>\n<li>J. R. R. Tolkien<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>That said, with the exception of Orson Scott Card, Douglas Adams and Tolkien, I haven&#8217;t read <em>everything<\/em> from these authors, and have mostly just read Discworld stuff from Pratchett.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m about to leave on a couple of big trips and want to load up my Nook.
