He&#8217;s wanted a Sparc for years and this is a nice machine, plus he deserved it after all the hard work he&#8217;s been doing these past few weeks.<\/p>\n<p>Upon reflection, this now means that we have 8 computers up and running. So I thought this would be a good time to stop and document this moment in our computer-owning history &#8211; with pictures!<br \/>\n<lj -cut><center><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.princessleia.com\/images\/computer\/decade.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.princessleia.com\/images\/computer\/decade_sm.jpg\" alt=\"decade\" border=\"0\"\/><\/a><br \/>\n<b>decade<\/b>: The newest arrival, weighing in at 118 pounds, Michael&#8217;s new Sun E250 server. Right now he&#8217;s installing Gentoo on it, no concrete plans for what we&#8217;ll actually be using it for.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.princessleia.com\/images\/computer\/r2a6.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.princessleia.com\/images\/computer\/r2a6_sm.jpg\" alt=\"r2a6\" border=\"0\"\/><\/a><br \/>\n<b>r2a6<\/b>: My Dell Inspiron 7500 laptop, running Ubuntu Breezy Badger.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.princessleia.com\/images\/computer\/century.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.princessleia.com\/images\/computer\/century_sm.jpg\" alt=\"century\" border=\"0\"\/><\/a><br \/>\n<b>century<\/b>: Michael&#8217;s HP laptop, running Windows XP.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.princessleia.com\/images\/computer\/minute_and_evening.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.princessleia.com\/images\/computer\/minute_and_evening_sm.jpg\" alt=\"minute and evening\" border=\"0\"\/><\/a><br \/>\n<b>minute<\/b>: 733mhz Dell Optiplex, currently running Gentoo Unstable. This was our primary web\/mail\/dns\/etc server, but is being phased out. No plans for what this machine will do next.<br \/>\n<b>evening<\/b>: 233mhz(?) PowerMac, monitor at the top of the picture belongs to this. It&#8217;s our firewall and runs Debian, probably the most well-behaved box in the whole house, runs like a tank :)<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.princessleia.com\/images\/computer\/hour.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.princessleia.com\/images\/computer\/hour_sm.jpg\" alt=\"hour\" border=\"0\"\/><\/a><br \/>\n<b>hour<\/b>: My Dell workstation, runs Debian Etch.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.princessleia.com\/images\/computer\/r2d2.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.princessleia.com\/images\/computer\/r2d2_sm.jpg\" alt=\"r2d2\" border=\"0\"\/><\/a><br \/>\n<b>r2d2<\/b>: Our MythTV box and media server (using samba), runs Gentoo and used to be my workstation before I got hour.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.princessleia.com\/images\/computer\/r2q5.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.princessleia.com\/images\/computer\/r2q5_sm.jpg\" alt=\"r2q5\" border=\"0\"\/><\/a><br \/>\n<b>r2q5<\/b>: Audio server (yes, it&#8217;s face down on the floor)  that Michael uses for <a href=\"http:\/\/radio.13thhour.net\">his radio show<\/a>, runs Windows XP.<\/center><\/lj><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Yesterday Michael drove to New Jersey to pick up a Sun E250 from a guy on the PLUG list.
