Our weekend in Maryland and West Virginia and our engagement

We spent more time hiking through the park. Went over a long bridge that went over a rock overhang, had to climb through some precarious ice to get all the way through, but it was worth it. The park really was beautiful, and hardly anyone was there. So perfect.

Around 4:30 we decided to get going.

On the way home we tried to take a less windy road, as the windy roads and hills weren't good on Rae's stomach. Once back on Maryland-68 the fog was horrible, and it turns out that the weather stayed pretty gloomy and cool in MD all day, glad we went to West Virginia! We got back to The Castle around 7pm, got cleaned up and headed out to the Savage River Lodge for dinner.

The fog was horrible, while Michael was driving he couldn't see 5 feet in front of him! It was scary, if I hadn't had my heart set on going out there I would have just told him to turn around and we'd find something else. But we made it, even if we were a few minutes late for the 8pm reservation.

Once inside the lodge, they told us a lot of people had canceled their dinner plans because of the fog, and they were glad to see that we made it out. We decided before dinner that we'd bring a bottle of wine back to The Castle instead of drinking one there so Michael could drive back to The Castle entirely clear-headed (we had planned on Barry driving back, but with the fog he didn't feel comfortable with it, understandable since he'd never driven the Rav4 before).

The dinner was amazing! Barry and Rae ordered crab cakes, Michael ordered the boar, and I ordered a mushroom dish which was to die for. Yum! Our waitress was very nice, and they didn't waste any time telling her that we had just gotten engaged. For dessert Michael and I shared a very good chocolate vanilla cake baked in a pie crust and covered with chocolate, it was so good. I was very happy with our dinner there! It was nearly 10pm by the time we left.

The drive back proved to be slightly less foggy than the way in, but it was still very bad. It was around 10:30 that we got back to The Castle.

We got our pajamas on, Michael opened the bottle of wine and we sat with Barry and Rae in the library just watching TV and getting comfortable.

Around 11:30 I was feeling especially tired and we retired to our room.

What a day!
