Our trip to West Virginia

Day Two

8:30 pm, April 25, 2004

This morning we woke up around 7, but I didn't want to get out of bed, this is one of the most comfy beds I've ever slept in! I finally got up, showered, and by 8:30 we were in the dining room for breakfast. Breakfast was amazing. Beautifully arranged fruit, cream and pastry to start out, muffins, and then heart-shaped french toast! Tony (our host) really knows how to present and serve.

New Germany

Unfortunately the weather wasn't as nice as we might have liked. We decided to drive out to New Germany State Park anyway to give hiking a shot. We purchased a trail map and at 10:30 started a nice hike. It had stopped raining, so we were left with a mid-50s and foggy hike, with no one else around. It was about 4 miles, and we finished a little after noon.

We drove around for a while, finally deciding that we could skip lunch, still full from the amazing breakfast. Then it got a bit more foggy adn we decided to come back here to the castle. Spend the afternoon relaxing. Around 4 our host brought up some cake, cookies, cheese and tea for "tea time." It was really nice.

New Germany Trail

A little after 5 we decided to go out to find some dinner. The hosts recommended the Savage River Lodge. It was about 10 miles away, and over a mile of that was a private dirt (mud) road just for the Lodge. The Lodge's atmosphere was great, we each ordered a nice glass of wine and a fish meal. The salmon I had was perfect! Halfway through, my mouth was still begging for more of this brilliance. Dessert was quite nice too.

We left and took 68 back to The Castle. The fog had become VERY thick and everyone was driving slowly with their emergency blinkers on. We arrived back around 8.

Now that I'm finished with this I'm going to the library for a bit of a read.
