Day Three
7:45 am, April 27, 2004 from this point forward, I did my entries the morning after the day listed, so this is day three, journal written on day 4 Monday morning we enjoyed another great breakfast at The Castle. Afterwards, we packed up and decided to drive out to West Virginia and hope that the rain cleared enough for us to do a bit of hiking once we arrived. We got lucky and decided to stop at a park in West Virginia called Blackwater Falls. It was a bit foggy, but the temp was in the 50s. The actual falls were our first stop, we got some great pictures, and then decided to walk a few trails, visited another set of falls in the park and hiked a trail out to see the "Balanced Rock." I'd say when we were finished we hiked about 4 miles of tough terrain, complete with hills, rocks, and a great deal of mud and water. When we got back to the truck it was late afternoon and we decided to head up to the Bed and Breakfast place to check in. We checked in here at the Tunnel Mountain B & B around 4:30. Our hosts are wonderful, and they have a few pets! Two dogs named Molly and Jessie, and a great cat named Sammy. For dinner our hosts recommended C.J. Maggie's in downtown Elkins. Eklins is a bit of a dive, not the nicest "city" I've seen on this trip, welcome to WV! Hehe. The food at Maggie's was Friday's-like, and I enjoyed it, even if my stomach protested the fried food later. Got back here to the B & B around 7 and got settled in. Decided to go down to the livingroom and play a board game. We were able to enjoy the animals, speak with our hosts for a while, it was a very enjoyable evening. We retired to our comfy 3rd floor room around 10. Slept well. It's tuesday morning now, we're getting ready to head downstairs for breakfast. Since we're the only guests it's so quiet! Plan on heading to Seneca Rock and Caverns today. Featured Photos (click to enlarge) |
