o/` Stabbing Westward – Sleep o/`

I was a bit bored yesterday… ended up going out around 10:30 last night and went to rent a few movies. A co-worker of Myk’s suggested we see Brazil, it was directed and written by Terry Gilliam (Monty Python) so we figured it would be pretty good. After doing a bit of research this morning I discovered that we rented a ‘shortened’ 131 minute version, and the diretors cut (142 minutes) is much better, and also, on imdb.com, it’s listed as #161 in the top 250 voted by users… The first thing I noticed about this movie as that although it was in the comedy section, I REALLY think it was far too dark to be considered comedy, I’ve seen funnier movies put in the drama section where this should have been. About 1 1/2 hours into this movie I was ready to turn it off. It’s full of symbolism and metaphors which makes it terribly hard to follow, and when you finally grasp onto the plot, it’s not very exciting. It’s the story of a man who works at the Ministry of Information in a world where paperwork has gotten to an absurd point, and everything from your job to fixing your air conditioning is controlled by the government, and wonderful technology is everywhere, but of course, never works properly. His only dreams are of a beautiful mystery woman in his dreams that he is meant to save, and once he finds her in real life he finds it difficult to do anything but find her. Uh, this entry is turning into a movie review. Anyway, I wouldnt recommend it unless you were in an introspective mood and were wanting to dissect a movie, and dont drink while you watch it, it’s surreal enough.

Anyway, after renting a couple movies we went over to the grocery store in the same plaza and we notice that this car in the handicapped spot has it’s lights on. so we go into the store and tell the woman at the counter that a man in that space left his lights on, and some co-worker says “oh, yeah he’s in aisle 9, did he have handicap plates? dont even think he’s handicapped let his battery die.” Whoa. What kind of additude is THAT!? Especially around this time of the year… so a bit startled we go and get what we needed (popcorn and advil) and go to check out and this clerk is still bitching about the guy in the handicap spot! Seriously, it’s 11 pm on a saturday night, there are _6_ cars in this big parkinglot and he’s bitching up a storm about this older gentleman who may or may not have handicap plates and was in the handicap spot. We didn’t wish the clerk a happy holidays.

I got my IRC bot (R2D2) running yesterday evening with the email database script… set up the databases and the user and everything seems to be running nicely, I’m really happy with it, now I just need to email the rest of the “#13thhouries” to get their permission to put their info into the database and stuff.

I think I am going to start putting together a recipe section of my webpage today… I know there are like 50 sections of my site that I start working on and never finish, but I really wanna finish this one! Hehe so I am gonna go do that noew… maybe I’ll even make some cookies this afternoon %)

Oh! I talked to a friend in #deep13 yesterday and he’s trying to get a bunch of us together for a xmas eve riff (like on MST3K when they make fun of movies) of a bad chrismas cartoon on that night. Myk and I are gonna move the TV into our computer room to watch the crappy movie so we can join the chat %) Should be fun.
