Name Change: Bevilacqua to Krumbach

Since the final divorce papers were signed on November 4th, I’ve decided to start changing my name back to my maiden name everywhere. It’ll take forever, so I might as well start now.

The legal change will go through as soon as I receive the final paperwork and manage to drag myself to the social security office, then the real fun changes start (banks, creditors, bills…).

So you’ll now be seeing me around the community as Elizabeth Krumbach rather than Elizabeth Bevilacqua.

    YES!

  • RoboNuggie

If I may be so bold; a little bit easier to pronounce!

  • mshyde

YAY! Enough of the tainting Michael’s good family name.

  • RoboNuggie

@mshyde – I didn’t mean any offence if at all any were caused.

@RoboNuggie That 3rd comment was from my ex husband, posting from work, impersonating someone else.

It’s unfortunate that he’s leaving insulting comments in my blog about how I tarnished his name, but at this point there isn’t much I can do about his behavior. I’ve never deleted non-spam non-explicit comments before and I’m not going to start now.

I never realized cheating on an abusive man would tarnish his “good” name. Wow…the things we learn.

I feel like there should be an NBC “The More you Know” message about this.

  • pleia2

@TheRealHyde We were separated at the time, but I’d rather not discuss this publicly…

  • mshyde

I’m just replying to the “Yes!” people on your blog. Obviously, I’m going to be the *bad* guy no matter what I do since you are so very perfect.

Hey all, before making up your minds, be sure to read:

Well I’m pretty humiliated by his behavior at this point, so reluctantly removing from Ubuntu Planet filter.

As far as marriage in general, is there really any solid advantage to changing surnames in the first place? Right now I’m thinking, If I ever get married, I have no preference as to what my wife does with her name..

  • pleia2

@ethana2 Aside from romantic gesture? Not really.

If I remarry I won’t be taking my new husband’s name, it’s not worth the trouble. Plus one builds their career (work and open source wise) upon a name, so changing it in the middle of things is less than optimal.

I realized this all at the time and went ahead with the romantic gesture anyway, I was quite smitten :)

    @mshyde Perfect is good.

  • mshyde

@TheRealHyde there is a lot you will never understand. That’s alright, as long as you are happy being what you are.

  • rick

i completely agree that changing your name is silly, although unfortunately traditional. me and my girlfriend plan to NOT get married, even though we are committed and own our house together. if we do get married for some reason, she is free to keep her name. when we (likely) have children, they will take my last name, therefore having a name connection to me and a birth connection to her.

  • mshyde

@ChinnoDog Jr – perfection doesn’t exist, unless you make sure to edit it to look that way. Shall I show some unedited ChinnoDog Jr logs for giggles? It’s your call little man.

Let’s hope everything goes smoothly concerning going back to you’re maiden name.

By the way, you might consider moving to Canada, since the 1980s we passed a law, stating that a woman getting married will keep her maiden name,

At least one of you is behaving with (the expected, to be honest) dignity and grace the situation deserves.

I have been through all of this last year, it is heart wrenching and at the same tiring, heavy, thud kind of feeling. Eroding. But you are on home stretch, mate.

Here if you ever need to talk.

  • Ryan

Is it weird that Krumbach makes me think of crumb cake and Bevilacqua makes me think of baklava?

  • RoboNuggie

@ryan – well, other than having a sweet tooth, sound normal to me…. wait… ryan…. reminds me of …. sounds like ryan…fry’n… chips!!!

  • mb

@timelady – who are you to pass judgment on the handling of this situation? Do I know you? Do you personally know Lyz? I think you should reconsider your opinions from a wiser perspective, dear.

  • jadoba

I wish you the best, Lyz. Never stop being so awesome.

  • pleia2

    @jadoba Thank you :)

  • stephane de labrusse

go on lyz, now it’ s time to live your life.

  • vardis

Good result. Ditch his name asasp!
