I voted for it and I was pretty excited when I heard about Computer Engineer Barbie becoming a reality. I pre-ordered mine (product page here) as soon as I could and finally received it today!
Unfortunately work tore me away from my new toy and I sat it next to my desk. Then, while doing some upgrades this afternoon, I glanced over and noticed a penguin. Yes indeed, on the left hand edge of the case Barbie has a big penguin on her shelf!
Now I’m even more excited! Hooray Tux!

That doesnt look like Ubuntu on her system. Have you considered helping her out and wiping off her toy XP setup for something more beefier? Unless, of course Im looking at Gourmet Recipe Manager. Hard to see from the angle. :)

Uploaded a picture of her laptop:

Given the non-traditional layout of her desktop (no Start button, not even a traditional bottom panel!), plus the fact that she’s a Computer Engineer AND sports a penguin on her shelf, I think it’s easy to assume she’s already using a customized Linux :) Computer Engineer Barbie doesn’t need my help.

That’s the Unity desktop on that laptop, isn’t it? It’s not? Hmmm.

*snerk* No, it doesn’t have the immutable line of buttons down the left side! :)

I think it could (should?) be a re-designed Sugar desktop… :-)

Obviously she’s using Fluffy.

I wonder how she maintains her proportionately 18 inch waste on Chinese takeout?

Incredible, really great notice for me, and for my she cousins (is it OK, she cousins?)
A very geeky-styled Barbie, I’m almost sure she will not be bought just by lil’ girls and Barbie Fans ;)
have someone looked at CompEng Barbie’s face? She looks like Fergie (Black Eyed Peas) with this glasses :P
Cheers,

Awwww. When I say the title in my feed reader, I thought she was going to have a little plushie Tux. Now I’m sad she doesn’t have a little plushie Tux. :-(
I totally want to work in that cubicle though.

Hello,
should she, MáirÃn? At a first glance she looks like, eehmm, a very pneumatic computer engineer from an area where food is a scarce resource ;). But I might need to get to know her better, before I can rant adequately about her ;).
Regards

Nice, this Fluffy Linux is a great find. It actually looks quite nice.

What does the binary text in the background say?

@Benthor
Can’t see behind the hand, but from what I can see it says Barbie
(looks like the two columns are the same, which makes that even more certain)

Her keyboard leaves a lot to be desired.
It seems to be based on the Macbook keyboard (4 keys to the left of the spacebar).
However it’s still missing several keys and if I’m not mistakin’ the “S” and “D” are merged into one key?
It’s a pity, I was hoping Barbie would go all out on the geek-scale and have a Dvorak keyboard.
Why was I thinking about Barbie so much? This is not a good sign.

@Rob
D’oh, typical. It doesn’t specifically have to modeled after the Macbooks, I just realised /most/ laptops will have an FN key.
Silly me, only glancing at my desktops keyboard :(

I love her circuit print shirt.

Barbie sucks. I still don’t understand people who buy that crap. Just banning this doll will probably up the happiness factor in women all over the world. That’s just one example.
So no, this is not a matter of pride but of shame.

I like how there’s the little speech bubble at the top.
“Be a Computer Engineer online! Code on back of card!”
I mean I get that it’s for the little kids paying attention to the whole I Can Be thing but it’s still funny.
