Lost Highway Soundtrack

Man I have been lazy this week. I don’t think I have acomplished anything worth noting… that’s very sad.

Well I have some good news… this friend I have from when I lived back in Seneca Falls, NY is here in philly! He goes to school at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh now, and I havent seen him in over a year, but he has a friend here in philly he is staying with and said we could meet up sometime this weekend if I wanted to! That’d be cool, he suggested going out for a beer or something (he turned 21 10 days before me) because we can, hehe…

Anyway I am gonna go play some UT *wanders off*

Diabolical Curse Generator
The Diabolical Curse Generator – Get yours!!!

Peter Murphy – Just For Love

Uh about that comment on yesterday’ entry, I KNOW there are ways to work around starting with a graphical login.. anything is possible until redhat closes their source %D And I know how to use runlevels… I have runlevel 4 dedicated to Unreal Tournament %D! (it’s basically just runs the fewest processes needed for UT to run, and when i “startx” it launches right into the game) Thanks for the advice tho, it might help some one %)

So I was considering switching to Debian when I get my new proc and mobo.. but oh man, Myk got Gentoo running on his box and it’s SO cool. It’s got something that’s a lot like debian’s apt system, but instead of getting the precompiled binaries in the .deb packages, it downloads the source, and then installs it according to preferences you set up during the first compile of gentoo (so it compiles according to stuff like processor type and speed…). It also solves dependencies (like apt)… And so in essence it combines be beauty of BSD’s port system and debian’s easy install process. So it looks like in a few months I’ll be switching to that instead… I have no intention of upgrading redhat in that time.. 7.2 has treated me nicely, but anything more than this is far too bloated…

Heh, so I cleaned the kitchen today… I worked on cleaning for like an hour (it wasnt really cluttered, we are pretty neat…). Cleaned the whole stove, washed the floor, washed all the cabinets.. and at the end I looked and it didn’t really look that much better! Gah… I mean _I_ will know that it’s clean, but I am sure when Myk comes home all he will notice is my bleach smelling hands, arg… I also did a little work on my wheel of time section of my site, not much work, I think i’ll do some more this weekend, actually get some CONTENT… oh content! %)

Hmmm so i decided I am easily annoyed by people doing things other than chatting in a chat room, when they involve lots of color anyway. I thought at first it was only when I am in lousy moods, but it’s not %) I wish color had never been invented for IRC! Or at least never made so easy in mirc… I look in one of the chat rooms I chat in and its a huge mess of mp3 scripts, quote machines, and away messages. Is that really needed? Granted quote machines are funny, sometimes… but at one point it was just a whole screen of this stuff! Gah… I am glad we banned all of this in #13thHour %) We are known to be Nazi’s about that. One girl even stopped coming ’cause I asked her to turn off her mp3 script… strange, is it so very hard? Heh…

Bel Canto – Agassiz

So it’s October 2nd. I went for a walk today with shorts and a t-shirt on and I came home sweating, sweating! in October! It is very sad. People keep saying that it usually starts getting cooler by now, and that the whole summer has been strangely hot… I hope they are right, I will probably live the rest of my life in this area and it’s just been too hot. It’s actually sorta odd too, you know how sometimes you can get so into a book that you start moderately losing touch with reality? Maybe not… but right now, in book 6 of the Wheel of Time series the whole “world” is going through this intense drought and prolonged summer… weird, feels like that’s what is going on here…

A friend of mine downloaded Redhat 8.0 and finally got it installed last night. Apparently it comes with a version of XMMS that won’t allow mp3s to play! (xmms is sorta like the linux version of winamp, looks similar, can even use the winamp skins) It totally sucks. Apparently there are already sites out there that can “hack” it to play mp3s, but the whole mp3 thing bugs me… owning a file format, bleh! I mean granted, ogg is very cool, and IF i was beginning my digital music library I’d definately create all ogg files… but as of now I have over 1500 mp3s! And of course most of them arent from cds I own, so unless I found a program to transfer them to ogg format (is that possible?) then I am stuck with
mp3s. Anyway, he also said that you HAVE to have a graphical login with RH 8.0 … which was really strange, maybe he just didn’t see the option for textual login… then again I wouldn’t put it past them %) Oh, so it’s 5 cds in all… apparently comes with OpenOffice too… which really made me realize I need to move AWAY from redhat.. honestly, I dont need all the crap that it comes with, I am quite happy with installing things myself, and with Debian apt-get makes life so easy! So I’ll keep running RH 7.2 for a couple months, but as soon as I get my new processor and motherboard I will begin the whole restructuring of my system %)

I’m so tired today and I’m not sure why, I cant really remember if I slept well last night or not… *shrugs* I bought some cherry coke instead of cherry pepsi today when I walked up to the shopping plaza near here to get lunch ’cause cherry coke has a higher caffine content, and I have even been munching on penguin mintys half the day and I still feel like I want to go to bed! Maybe it’s because I’ve been pretty unproductive this week so far… sorta bored so I want to sleep. Well today I think I am gonna work on a new section of my site (another new section!? yes)hopefully I will finish this one someday.. hehee… It’s a Wheel of Time section, since I am REALLY getting into these books… reading “The World Of Robert Jordan’s Wheel Of Time” has really sparked much more interest. I actually emailed a woman who does WoT art and requested to use some of her pictures on my page once I get it done..

Anyway, I guess that’s it for noew *wanders off*

Joydrop – Beautiful

h8 onboard/integrated LAN, sound, video

So I thought I might look into getting a completely new computer. I wandered around Dell, found some decent stuff, wandered over to alienware… found some REALLY nice stuff, then realized I am poor and I should probably just upgrade r2d2. I started looking for a motherboard at pricewatch.com, but there really isnt enough information from that site, so I went to newegg (where some friends have bought stuff in the past) and I found some pretty nice stuff. I have decided I am gonna get an ASUS P4S333 motherboard (I had the WORST time finding a board with nothing “integrated or onboard” rar), they are currently out of stock at newegg.com, which is disappointing.. especially since they DO have them at other sites, but most of them have the onboard stuff. I called newegg and they dont have an ETA on the board, so I guess I can just wait, and look around at other places in the meantime… it’s a really pretty board %) and has gotten nice reviews:

YAY! It’s so pretty… I hope it comes into newegg soon, I’d really like to have it… with it I’m getting a 2 ghz pentium 4 (DONT START!!! Each time I mention I am getting an Intel chip I have 435656 people screaming at me about how they love AMD and I should get an AMD chip instead… stfu already, I’ve always had intel, and I like them %P). And I need ram… so I was thinking of getting a 512 mb chip of 2700 ddr ram %d yummie! My computer is gonna rock %D!

Ok, so Long Island Iced Tea. No it doesnt contain iced tea, but it has the sickeningly sweet lemony taste that I hate so much in most cheap commercial tea, at least the Long Island Iced Tea I had did. Speaking of drinking, I was really depressed yesterday about not getting the house (dispite being able to upgrade my computer now), so we decided to go out to Uno’s for dinner. I got to order a beer!!! it was fun, but they ID’ed (i didnt get id’ed on my birthday of course, hah) me and since it’s an out of state license they had to get it all verified with the bartender n stuff, heh…(heh, I’m bad, havent gotten a PA license yet). Anyway it was a nice dinner, we gave the waiter like a 50% tip ’cause after that stupid icky waitress on my birthday this was a nice change… plus the food couldnt have been better, I was very pleased.

Oh this morning I ordered some books %) I wanted to get a copy of Volume 2 of HG Well’s An Outline Of History (I have volume one, even if it IS a beat up copy from 1940). But of course I find out the book is out of print… except for a $45 version published by barnes and noble in august of this year… GAH! I dont want to pay that much… So through Amazon I found just volume 2, a 1960 something copy in decent condition for like $7 with shipping, yay! From Barnes and Noble I bought a bunch of new books (ended up spending $51.23, with a 5% discount!)… after I bought them I realized I should have compared prices with amazon ’cause on orders over $49 or something they offer free shipping dont they? oh well… The books I got: Mort (terry pratchett, book 4 of the discworld series), Treasure Box: A Novel (an orson scott card book), The Redemption of Althalus (david eddings), Myth Directions/Hit or Myth (robert asprin, second in a series), Black Sun Rising (Coldfire Trilogy #1), then book 7 and 8 of the Wheel of Time series, YAY!

Yep… *wanders off*

Nirvana – You Know, You’re Right

Yes, I live under a rock, I didn’t know they released an old Nirvana song! Gah… it’s really great %) A friend of mine sent me the mp3, it’s on my webserver, so I will now illegally share it in the manner that I illegally recieved it

http://www.princessleia.com/sounds/Nirvana-You_Know_Youre_Right-Full_Studio_Version.mp3

I will only keep it up for about a week or so, so grab it if you want it %) in that sounds directory I also have some They Might Be Giants that I havent got around to deleting (in fact, you might wanna bookmark it ’cause I use this directory for giving people mp3s… so the choices of what I have are always changing).

Fooey.

Just heard from the realtor… we didn’t get the house %(!

Ah I can look on the bright side, now I can get a new computer

*starts planning all that she will do with her new computer… starting with the name*

Soul Coughing – Unmarked Helicopters

I love sleep

Sometimes things just suck because you had such high expectations.. then you realize later that they didn’t really suck at all. I hate that. Last night we went to the Drafting Room for my birthday. I was expecting to get all sloshed… but it turns out the restauarant, dispite it’s bar and grill atmosphere, was nice enough for people to bring kids to, and they did. We should have been smarter and gone to a completely 21 + place… ’cause I have this serious problem with drinking in front of kids. Besides that we had the WORST waitress in the world. If it had been Unos I could understand it, but the food was quite expensive, as were the drinks, so we expected good services, but this woman was just AWFUL… She was like 45 and I SWEAR she was doing some sort of drugs in the back to make her cheerful, which just turned out to be obnoxious and annoying. She really made us all feel uncomfortable, and got all flustered when we asked for separate checks (so we just told her to forget it). She was NEVER around when we needed her, never offered to even replace our drinks when they were empty… It was just awful. I didn’t really get drunk…

On the bright side (last night I was feeling sorta down dwelling on all the sucky stuff) I DID get to try some yummie stuff. Myk ordered some La Chouffe (It’s a belgian ale), and that was really yummie… exactly what I have come to expect out of a Belgian Ale. I ordered some Lindemans Kriek (again belgian), it’s a ‘fruity’ beer, and dispite people saying “it still has the beer taste” i could hardly taste it.. it was all cherry yumminess. Unfortunately the stuff is like $120 a case (the Chimay we usually get is only $70-80 a case), but I really think it’d be worth it for special occasions. Mike (mct) got some Lindemans Framboise (same as mine, but rasberry), I tried some of that, it was much fruitier and wetter (mine was rather dry)… I didnt like it as much as mine %) Nita (Mike’s girlfriend) ordered a Red Death, which I tried and was impressed with.. then she ordered a Long Island Iced Tea, i tried that too and didn’t really like it.. but that’s not surprising ’cause I am not much of an iced tea person, and she said that particular one was quite strong anyway. Ed (n-tropy) got a mudslide, which I didn’t bother tasting ’cause I have had them before (albiet home-made). The food was quite good as well. For an appitizer we got this yummie spinach and crab dip with pumpernickel bread, mmmm. Then for dinner I had a grilled chicken sandwich with brie on it (mmm cheese). Then for dessert I had a yummie warm brownie with some rocky road ice cream %d

After dinner I was a bit disappointed that I was only a little tipsy, so we came home and hung out with Mike and Nita for a while (Ed went home) and I had a couple beers, just because it WAS my 21st birthday and all. After they left I spent the rest of the night watching Adult Swim and munching on chips and drinking beer, then around 12:30 I was REALLY tired (from the drinking no doubt) so I went to bed and had no trouble falling asleep… it was nice %)

One thing that did bother me about yesterday was the realization, yet again, of how insanely shy I am. See I get all excited about going out, tell myself that I AM comfortable with the people I’ll be hanging out with, and have all these images of me finally being the center of attention, or at least talking enough to be part of the conversation most of the time. And again I failed. I dont know what it is, when we go out with just Mike and Nita I am fine, but the addition of Ed just maybe makes it one person too many.. or maybe I am not as comfortable around
him as I thought.. gah I dunno %( It’s just frustrating that I am shy, and I really can’t help it. And it’s just in social situations. If I am working somewhere I can interact with customers in a casual non-shy manner (even when it’s 7 drunk italian guys at 2 am in seneca falls, and they all want subs). And even when we were dealing with the realtor, I was being helpful and talkative, and open with exactly what we were interested in as far as a house goes. But drop me at a club with friends and I turn into Super Wall Flower. And it’s something non-shy people can’t understand at all. I mean Myk is sorta shy, but he can also be very socially active around friends, so he can’t understand when I get frustrated by not being able to talk much.. he just says “you’re intelligent and pretty and you have all sorts of good ideas, you just need to talk about them”. If only it was that easy %( I wish I had just grown out of this! Oh and of course in chat I am not shy, quite the opposite (Myk mentioned last night that I should get out more, move away from chat… but what is there to do? Who can I hang out with?… then I told him that chat was not the problem, that I was actually more shy before chat, he didnt believe that was possible!). Bleh, I dunno what my problem is. Maybe it’s some sort of subconcious left over self-esteem problem from my teenage years when I thought I sucked, so I’m afraid I’ll make a bad impression on people who I want to be my friends, when conciously I KNOW that if I was just my normal self people would like me.

I don’t want to get dressed today, I just wanna sit here at my computer in my pajamas and cuddled in my comforter.

Myk installed Gentoo Linux (www.gentoo.org) on part of his computer last night. It’s quite nice %) He’s gonna show me some more tonight (since I was way too tired last night) but it’s very promising. Myk seems to think that if we don’t get the house he wants to buy me a nice new computer, then I could use r2d2 as a test box… if that happens I might play with debian and gentoo on r2d2, it’d be fun %D I wont get too excited tho, since I STILL don’t know what’s going on with the house. Anyway, I am looking forward to checking it out more, seeing how well enlightenment runs, and better yet how well UT2003 runs %)

Anyway I wrote my second shell script this morning. I am lousy at shell scripting, mostly because I never used it much, so each time I find myself doing somethine repeditive I get all excited and write one. This one was for generating ircstats for #13thHour. All it does is cd into the pisg directory (where the perl script to generate the stats is), run the pisg script, cd’s back out of the directory, then starts the scp to upload the html stats file… all i need to do is type “bash ircstats” and then put in the password for the scp. It’s nice and easy %)

Well I have stuff to do today (I guess…) so I’ll go noew *wanders off*

Slight change of plans, we are going here instead:

CHIMAY ON TAP!!!!

I’m gonna get so trashed %D

Happy birthday To Me! Yay! (shh this is my blog, I can be as self centered as I want).

I went to a convinence store last night to pick up some soda, milk and ice cream. I get to the counter, hand the lady my credit card and I get “we dont take any credit cards here, only cash, the MAC machine is over there”. I stood there for a second, trying to understand this… then pushed my stuff off to the side and went over to the generic mac machine (that charged me 1.75 to use it, plus i will get a 1.50 charge from my bank for using a machine other than theirs).. and got $20 out to pay for my stuff… Ugh… And it’s not like it was a small mom and pop store, I could understand that! This was a big chain store… now I assume that other stores in the chain take credit cards, and I am not sure why this one was different but it really was amazing. I think every store should take credit cards… I hate cash, this is the 21st century dammit! %)

Anyway, last night we had yummie indian food for dinner %) I guess you could say yesterday was Myk’s and my ‘official’ one year anniversary, so we decided having yummie food in would be nice. It turned out to be a really nice night (%

Um, I guess that’s it… for noew… I’ll be sure to post tomorrow with all the details of my 21st birthday fun tonight, hehe, mmm drinkys.
