Tori Amos – Winter

*Read a friend’s blog* Ah sickening religious optimism in the morning, just what I need to spoil my morning %) Gah It’s monday, I dont like mondays…

Spent the weekend reading mostly… we rented MST3K:Pod People and Mangolia on saturday night, had fish, cheese, and too much beer %) And there was a thunderstorm outside! Yay! It was a fun night, didn’t get sick from drinking this time ;)

Sunday I felt alright considering all I drank the night before (my body *still* aches… hehe). We had planned to go to the Linux Picnic, but we felt sorta bad so I didnt think we were gonna go. Our friend Nita ended up calling us around 4 asking if we were coming, we decided to *shrugs*… got there finally around 7, and turns out hardly anyone showed up, so it was sucky and lame %( I’m not sure what I expected, heh… Bar night on friday was much more sucessful, of course I wont be 21 for another 34 days %s

So I realized something rather startling the other day.. We have these really geeky, computer friends in real life, they are pretty cool, but seem to have a strange view on women… Why strange? Well I wouldn’t say they are women haters or anything, they love women.. just dont appreciate intelligence in women enough I think… and that really bothers me. I think what really did it tho was this:

http://michael.toren.net/markers.jpg

It’s a map of where a bunch of us live.. everyone gathered the coordinates and gave them to MCT to put on the map. Of course Myk (Time) was working so I wandered to the website and got the coordinates, and so I am the *only* woman on the map! MCT didnt say him and his gf… bj didnt have him and his girlfriend, etc… Only because I gave the coordinates instead of Myk, I get on there… and then of course there is the topic of the room currently “A good woman is like a piano. When she’s not upright, she’s grand.” … which again bothers me A LOT. I think it’s mostly because if I met these people online one day or something instead of meeting them in real life as “Myk’s Girlfriend” I could be their friend… as it is I am stuck in this inferior ‘woman’ stereotype, and it’s unfair… I feel uncomfortable with the women when they talk about soap operas and babysitting, and I feel uncomfortable with the guys ’cause I feel like I shouldnt be there because I’m a woman.. and they STILL sometimes treat me like a freaking idiot *sigh* I hate having to prove myself to these people over and over again, it’s really unfair… then again it IS encouragement to suceed in everything I attempt and not let them see me as a stupid woman…

Well one thing that was good about the picnic is I was telling a friend of mine about the situation with my father and stuff, and mentioned that my sister might have to give away my chinchillas Merlynn and Dweezle. Myk overheard this and was like “ack, do you want to go get them? I dont want her having to just give them away to some person she doesnt know” … I was a bit surprised by this, since I *know* Myk is allergic, and our apartment doesnt really have a place for them. But he said if her getting rid of them is an option then we HAD to go get them, even if they have to live at his mother’s for a few months until we get a house. I was really happy about this %) I miss them so much %(

Oh! I finished the 4th Wheel of Time book this weekend… I will type up the review noew %)

Book Four: The Shadow Rising, By Robert Jordan, 1006 pages

This book takes place about a year after the first. Rand and the others are forced into deciding what path each of them is to follow… inevitably splitting them up again. This book really focuses on showing how each character has changed since leaving home, for better or worse, and also give us a much better picture of some of their enemies, the 9 remaining Forsaken. It also aroused a great number of new suspicions and mysteries that I am very interested in being explored in the next books…

Well I’m gonna go noew… besides that php tutorial that I’m dying to get back to I still need to take a shower this morning after I clean the kitchen… *wanders off*

Radiohead – Like Spinning Plates

People should write more songs about things you use for eating like plates and glasses.. I’ve never heard one I havent liked… not that there are many…

I ran up2date last night and it upgraded my php for me, very nicely.. so now i have 4.1.2 (apparently THIS is what i needed to have everything work right, not 4.2.x) Anyway everything is in working order now, yay! %) I added a little php to r2d2’s little lan page, hehe.. and I’ve been working through the tutorial at php.net for about an hour now %) should have been for longer but i kept chatting, heh

I finished my MST3K page yesterday %) YAY! You can check it out here:

princessleia.com/MST3K

So I guess I’ll get back to working with php.. it’s friday %) Hopefully I’ll have a nice weekend… *wanders off*

You know how I said it was something simple and stupid that was wrong with the php? At least I was right about that! Heh… turns out the global variables beginning with $_ were implimented in 4.2.x … guess what version i have? YEP! One before that … 4.0.6!!! Gah, that’s why it wasnt working, I feel like such an idiot %) I gotta try to upgrade it now, heh fun %|

Matchbox 20 – Long Day

Sitting here waiting for papa john’s to deliver my pizza… they take checks for delivery, isnt that amazing? Sure amazing AND terrible, since now I’ll be tempted to get pizza all the time %) But I wont… I really should save my savings, heh.

So PHP is still not working, I have tried so many things I am getting so frustrated! I just know it’s something small that I’m overlooking and that’s what bothers me the most %( I have been working on my MST3K page to get my mind off of it, heh. I could play with *just* php a bit (no with mysql) on my webserver, but that would probably just annoy me *shrugs*

I opened the windows of the apartment and shut off the AC… it’s not too bad out, at least I am breathing real air for once %D Would be better if it wasnt humid out tho, humidity makes the room feel sticky, and that’s not cool…

Sister Hazel – Your Winter

Sometimes I just wander around random blogs to see what other people in the world are doing… and I realized today how much I absolutely dispise ultra optimists… Maybe not them personally, but when I read a blog that is continually sickeningly sweet it really disturbs me. I think I can safely say it’s more disturbing to hear someone be happy and positive about _everything_ than to meet someone who likes to drink blood. What can I say? I mean I’m not as pessimistic as I used to be, I really do look on the bright side when I’m in the mood, but my life’s not perfect… do all these super optimists just lie to themselves and the world in blogs and go home to beat their head against a wall? No one can be so happy!! The world may never know…

Right. So Open Office officially sucks ass. True it’s free, and it’s got quite a number of decent features, but it crashes way too often. I was writing a letter (real paper letter) to my penpal in england (she doesnt have a computer, and an online relationship would really ruin this 6 year penpal thing, hehee)… and open office crashed! Granted I should have been saving… and looking back I probably should have written the thing in vim and then moved it to open office to format and print… *sigh* I just get so frustrated with open office at times like this %) Not to mention it’s slow ass on my computer, and I ALWAYS get errors when saving and exiting (even though the saves do seem to take, I dunno why I get errors).. At least it’s better than Star Office %) I suppose this is one of the times where I have to break down and say that Microsoft Office is superior to anything so far in linux *sigh* even though you are supposed to pay for it, it’s fast in windows and really is stable as far as windows is concerned. Gah… stupid dumb everything

Hmm in other news I slept well last night! Yes that is news, I usually sleep terribly.. prolly after that hangover yesterday (which I got over pretty quickly, luckily) I was tired and able to sleep… Feels good to get a good night sleep sometimes.. of course I will probably pay for it with terrible nights of sleep after this *shrugs*

Anyway, I found out yesterday that my local httpd server doesnt like some php… it’ll process parts but wont respond to other parts.. I thought it was the scripts, so i uploaded them to the webserver and they worked fine… I have no idea what is wrong, and I would work on them on my webserver but I need to be able to access and use MySQL as root, which i cant do on the webserver(and dont want to, if i screw something up, my webpage goes down, as well as myk’s). Hopefully Myk can figure out what’s wrong tonight… I will wander around google and check some stuff out, but it’s entirely likely that I wont be able to fix it on my own, and will prolly break more if i try %) .. if I cant get that working I’ll prolly work on parts of my webpage that need work (oh that would be all of them, heh) *wanders off*

So a friend of mine did 34535 quizzes last night… how could I but resist doing some of them? Here goes…

Are you Addicted to the Internet?
78%| |

Hardcore Junkie (61%| -| 80%)
While you do get a bit of sleep every night and sometimes leave the house, you spend as much time as you can online. You usually have a browser, chat clients, server consoles, and your email on auto check open at all times. Phone? What’s that? You plan your social events by contacting your friends online. Just be careful you don’t get a repetitive wrist injury…

The Are you Addicted to the Internet? Quiz at Stvlive.com!

I love the net…

What magazine am I?

Cyndi Lauper – All Through The Night

I feel like crap. Just for fun we decided to drink last night, heh… big mistake, I only had four beers but that was apparently enough to make me sick for the night. I think it might have been ’cause I went to bed kinda early (10:30ish) and didnt eat or drink anything after the beer.. but I woke up around 2 getting sick… stayed up for a while until I knew I wouldnt get sick again then went back to bed. It ended up being a pretty awful night tho.. I think I kept Myk up for a while, which I always feel awful about ’cause he has work in the morning %( I think I’ll just quit drinking on weekdays, that way if I have a bad night sleep it wont be *that* much of a problem… Anyway I woke up this morning and I still have an upset stomach %( Been drinking lots of water… that should help as long as I can keep it down… I’ll try to eat some toast later.

So I got pretty far in the MySQL tutorial, I am far from an expert but I think I have the basics covered now, I’ll get more into it if I need to. I think I’ll start on the php tutorial again (the short one from php.net) Hopefully that’ll get me off in the right direction… and I will be able to replace php nuke princessleia.com with something my own %)

Gonna go get something to eat noew and hope i dont get sick, heh *wanders*

Peter Murphy – Just For Love

I found this really cool perl script yesterday, it’s for generating an html page of stats. I had seen them before for mIRC, but this one is an open source one for a bunch of different clients. It just reads the log, and makes a page *shrugs* pretty neat… I posted one for #13thHour, I think i’ll do a monthly thing, at the end of the month I’ll move the log flies and have it read the new month’s one. For now the stats page is located here

http://www.princessleia.com/ircstats

I’ve also been wandering around checking out streaming audiocasts. See some people in #deep13 have one, and I can’t contribute ’cause it’s a shoutcast, running only on winamp, so unless i ran winamp through wine, or did the DJ’ing through clockbot (our win2k server) I would have no way to use the plugins.. since they wont work with xmms… I found IceCast, but I think that’s only for ogg files… and I have so few ogg files it would be rather dull… I think there is one called IceDJ or something, that lets you broadcast mp3s from linux, I’ll look into it %)

Right, so that’s what I’ll do today, as well as working on that MySQL tutorial a bit too, I’m really making progress, even helped out Myk last night with the databases on our webserver ^_^ Yep, so bbl… *wanders*

I’ve seen this on like 4 other sites … so I decided to do it… oh and I’m a crazy FF fiend %D:

Mediaeval Baebes – Razreesh

So yesterday was ok, went to Uno’s for lunch/dinner, then went to Border’s ’cause Myk gave blood on friday and they gave him border’s coupons for 20% off a purchase… we each got two cds. Myk got some Steve Roach… I got the newest Peter Murphy CD, Dust, and the newest Mediaeval Baebes cd, The Rose… I am really impressed with the Peter Murphy one, since I havent really heard any of his stuff since what he did in the late 80s/early 90s. The MB cd I’m listening to right noew, it’s what I expected, good %)

So then we rented a couple movies, On The Beach (’cause I read the book it was based on a few years ago) and Kingpin, ’cause I hadnt seen it and ppl said it was funny. On The Beach was good… but sad of course, since it’s about the world after a full scale nuclear war and most of the world has died, and the ones living are struggling to survive. Should be required viewing for anyone in any position of nuclear power %) The movie was like 3 hours and 20 minutes long tho.. luckily they did a nice job of keeping people entertained… so it was different than the book, but still good. Kingpin was pretty funny too, bowlers are so strange, and it was hardly exaggerating, bowlers are REALLY fucking strange, hehehe. Also drank some last night *takes summore tylenol* hehe, we tried to invite some people over too, but they were sorta non-responsive, I guess that happens when you wait til 10 pm to invite %) Hopefully we’ll have a party or something sometime in september or october, when the weather cools down a bit.

Hmmm so I am still playing with MySQL quite a bit, it’s cool, I’m learning a lot… so I’m gonna go work on that, then prolly go read for a while, *wanders off*
