Well we didnt go to that LAN party yesterday… we slept late and then with the heat and our allergies bothering us we decided it wasn’t really worth it, and we’d prolly just end up being crankie.

We did get irc.clockbot.net linked up with the other servers tho! I sent out an email last night as the “official announcement” of the room moving. So far it’s going over well.. except for a little episode last night…

See there is this script kiddiot, Yoshi, who used to chat on scifi, causing trouble and having a big ego about being “so into computers” He uses CompuServ and runs windows ME, need I say more? Yes, he is the typical 17 year old windows using, mirc loving monkey who thinks since he knows c++ and mirc scripting that he is so mighty. So somewhere along the line he developed this hatred for Myk. Now Myk doesnt have time to deal with kids like him, and tells him exactly that “go away you stupid windows monkey i have work to do” and Yoshi takes offense to this. So every chance he gets he comes into the room and “fights” with Myk “trying to see how much Myk really knows” … Now if you dont know this already, Myk has worked as a systems administrator at several companys in the past few years and currently works at a fiber optics company running their linux network and developing testing programs. So he has a normal job, and really only chats for fun, obviously doesnt have time for a windows monkey to come in and doubt what he knows. It’s all quite lame… So back to the point, Yoshi chats on a server linked to ours, he’s not an ircop or anything, but came into BOTH rooms we are in (deep13 and 13thhour) last night and caused a scene… asking why clockbot was linked, who gave him permission, then throwing around baseless accusations about how Myk “nukes” people and how he treats me badly. Now obviously to link a server you need permission of the servers being linked to, n stuff, so it was quite obvious that we did have full right to link. And about the treating me badly, wtf? He must be confusing Myk with my asshole of an ex.

Anyway, I had to deal with this stupid fight last night, and it sucked ’cause I was trying to read, when Myk comes in the room and was all “yoshi is trying to get us unlinked” Gah… eventually he left tho, hopefully he’ll just stay away. This was really upsetting to me because we did so much work to move the room, change our irc server to link up, and we thought this would be such a perfect place. I told the other ircops around that we didn’t know yoshi would freak about this (i didnt even know he chatted on the server much) and that we were all mature enough to just ignore problems with him… he just needs to keep his distance if he has a problem with us, not come in and start fights. It was pretty much agreed, and most people in #deep13 realize that he’s just a lamer anyway… so things are cool. Still it did upset me that all my work moving the room n stuff was threatened by one loser’s lameness.

I didn’t sleep well last night… Because of the room crap I didnt even TRY to go to sleep til after 3 am anyway… I read for a while… tried to go to sleep… then my allergies started acting up, took some benadryl ’cause that usually makes me sleepy. It did and I fell asleep when Myk came to bed, I dunno.. must have been after 5 or something. Then I woke up at 7 with my left eye all tearing uncontrollably, stupid allergies! My eyes are still all teary. I did fall back to sleep for a couple hours, but finally around 11 I decided to get up.. I feel so tired %(

*Yawn* So have I mentioned yet what a disappointment the 6th Wheel Of Time book has been? I am about halfway through and it’s no where near as captivating as the other books have been, I find myself continually putting it down, and that’s sad… I guess this is what everyone means when they say the series gets dull %) Apparently I am not the only one to start getting bored at book 6…

Hmmm oh… heh.. the other night I asked Time to tell me about DNS… actually i said “Tell me a story about domain names” since I realized I never really learned much about the history of the system or how it currently works exactly. So Myk started explaining it to me, took about 20 minutes, and after I guess I had a bit of a puzzled look on my face so he got out his O’Reilly DNS and BIND book. It’s actually quite interesting… I’m surprised I survived previously without knowing it ;)

Anyway, I gotta go wander off to irc and teach everyone how to use nickserv n stuff… we are all such newbies at this! Being on crappy no services scifi for so long… hehe *wanders off*

Peter Murphy – Deep Ocean Vast Sea

Sooo drowsy. I finished the memebers sections on the #13thHour site… still some work that needs to be done tho…

Speaking of my beloved #13thHour… this morning the scifi server went down twice. First for about a half hour, then later for almost an hour… this has always happened every couple of weeks, but now it’s happening much more often… a bunch of rooms have left the server because of it’s problems, and #13thHour is one of the last of the “old rooms” to still be around. But since a couple weeks ago when scifi cancelled farscape the server has had 5 times the number of users coming on to support bringing farscape back… With this flood of so many new users the crappy scifi server cant handle it, it’s been going down 2-20 times a day since this started. Completely unacceptable if anyone wants to maintain an intelligent conversation. Plus there are no services on scifi… so there are problems with getting ops, reopening rooms… etc. And people who have already left are all “why dont you move #13thHour off that crappy server?” .. I was very reluctant, as scifi has been my main “home” for almost 4 years now… also there are are a few people who I know won’t follow to a new server (the scifi dedicated)… and some old friends that won’t know where to find us if we leave scifi.

The server’s instability finally won though, and we are moving. I spoked to shade (irc.mystic-net.org) and JoMomma (irc.mst3k.org … linked to shade’s server, where I chat in #deep13) and they said we could link irc.clockbot.net and bring #13thHour there. Now this is not completely abandoning scifi. Other channels.. #deep13, #bottestlab, and probably soon #pitchblack moved there, it’ll be like a mini-scifi… with only the kewl rooms… Most of the room members seem pretty happy about it that I’ve spoken to, but I have yet to make the final email announcement to all the members.. *sigh* It’ll be a big change, but for the better, we’ll have stability, chan/nick/memo services, working commands, all the things that make scifi lousy… I’m looking forward to it.

So when Myk comes home tonight we will talk about it, shade will help us link the servers…

I guess we’re planning on going to a LAN party this weekend *shrugs* people I dont know… some friends of Myk’s from work, I like lan parties and playing games, but I’m insanely shy and I havent met any of these people *sigh* I installed one of the games we’ll be playing Ghost Recon with the expansion pack, i dont know how to play yet ’cause I havent felt like playing games… it’s very odd, we bought Battlefield 1942 and I havent felt like playing it! %( I dunno why… it’s probably the benadryl making me sleepy and sluggish, Myk even asked me a couple of times this week if i wanted to play WarCraft 3 and I declined…

It was cool at first, instead of having the #13thHour webpage at princessleia.com/13thHour it was at simply 13thhour.tk and when I signed up a few months ago it was as fast as any other good forwarding service (that’s all dot.tk addresses do, unless you pay for them). But now, no doubt due to the popularity of “free domains” the service is very slow and really not worth it anymore. On dial up a friend of mine said it took about a minute for it to even find the page! On cable it takes upwards of 10 seconds… now I know this is free, I shouldn’t complain, so I am considering just doing away with it.. I could always get 13thHour.com if i wanted to pay upwards of £100! (how much is that in USD? like $165 or so? tooooo much).

Ok, enough complaining about free stuff. I am in the process of redesigning the #13thHour site however, and I’m quite pleased with how it’s coming along %) I’ll post the linky when I get it.

Not that he reads this… hehe… still it’s the 19th, know what that means? Only 10 more days til my birthday! woohoo!!! 21 here I come %d *lines up the shot glasses in preparation*

Heh, we finally went grocery shopping last night… h8 grocery shopping. I wish it was all magical and the food just appeared in my house, it would save SO many headaches… i hate people… when I’m rich and famous I wont go grocery shopping anymore, I’ll make someone else do it for me! mwahaha! erm yeah. But we got home at like 8 from that.. and i hadnt eaten dinner yet… actually all I had eaten all day was a half of a slice of pizza, and I still wasn’t hungry. They should add Benadryl to any weight loss plan, it certainly kills my appetite… so much so that I even feel sick if I eat much. I guess it actually does suck since eating is good, and I am drowsy all the time from the benadryl as it is, I dont think not eating has helped my energy level at all, heh. The worst part about this all is I never used to get allergies at this time of year before this! Gah… st00pid pennsylvania, mark my words, I will NEVER move any further south than this!!!

So Myk is getting stressed out and wants to take a vacation. We were sorta planning on something this fall anyway, since the summer was so hot, and Myk hasnt had a real vacation in over a year (it was when he was between jobs…), he did take some time off when we went to see my family in maine, but you can hardly call “meeting the parents” a vacation now can you? Hehee… We’re thinking moutains, lakes, NO PEOPLE… *shrugs* we should plan soon tho, each day Myk is coming home more frustrated and stressed out than the previous, and we want to go somewhere before the holiday season. I told him he should take off time right after my brithday, and instead of getting me a big present for my birthday we could spend a really nice vacation somewhere. Of course he was like “NO! How about I get you something nice AND we have nice vacation” Gah… he’s so hopeless, I dont *need* anything, and I’d rather have a super vacation in the mountains and no presents, oh well… %)

Anyway I did end up finishing the validating of html on my site yesterday %D! Now everything but the php nuke specific pages are w3c.org validated, yay! I am working on a new layout for the #13thHour page so I didnt bother to validate that, but otherwise it’s all pretty noew %)

Took Benadryl again today, they were mowing the lawn outside and it make me sooo sneezy, fun fun.. so now I feel better allergy wise but i’m all froozy, heehee *wanders off*

You know, I always think of things I could write in here while I’m not at my computer… o_O Then I forget it all when I sit down to write in here… heh.

Anyway, since I can’t think of anything to write I’m gonna go play “validate the html on my site” again… oh I discovered that you cannot put a background tag in the td part of a table… which I used quite often. Luckily if you do it with style=”background: url(jkflds.jpg)” it works %D! I think when I get bored with validating html.. since I have a lot to do and it DOES get boring, I’ll start working on porting madragoran’s script for irssi, yay!

Nine Inch Nails – La Mer

I havent done much today, how surprising! Took some Benadryl this morning for my stupid allergies and I’ve been out of it ever since, I hate that… but it’s the only allergy medicine that works well to relieve all my congestion, bleh… sooo drowsy…

So I’ve been validating html all day… still probably not half done, heh, sooo frustrating %( But worth the time I think %)

I also wrote a little script to auto op the room owner (i guess she’s the room owner, hard to tell in there) of #brit-cit, since I am always there, heh. Perl is nice %) and it’s good I havent forgotton anything in the past month, hehe… I really should get around to porting madragoran’s shitfi unmasking script to irssi, but I’m just so lazy o_O Maybe later this week, after the validating is done %)

Ok, Benadryl making me so sleepy, I’m gonna go back to doing html validation, very little brain power needed %)

Finished Another Fine Myth and Myth Conceptions last night:

Another Fine Myth/Myth Conceptions, By Robert Asprin, 395 pages

These are the first two books in a series, that were now re-released as one book (as they are doing with the whole series I believe). The stories are fantasy-based, same characters in both who range from dragons, to demons, to green-haired assassins. It is also a comedy. Not only playing off the hilarity of modern fantasy novels, but drawing from our conceptions of what certain mythical creatures are and how they act. I really liked these books and despite trying to take my time reading them I found I finished in less than 3 days. Often I found myself laughing out loud at some of the references and remarks that the characters made, and I don’t often do that. And the book had enough seriousness to hold the story together and get you to care about each character. I suppose it might take a certain sense of humor to enjoy however.. In all it was a lot of fun.


Started reading book 6 of the WoT today..

I talked to my sister Heather on the phone today she is in college now, a Biology major, seems to be doing well %) I’m happy for her, glad she’s doing well… we had a nice talk, which isn’t common since she’s pretty quiet on the phone most of the time. I think I might be getting a little lonely for friends and family tho, I kept feeling like I had to think of things to say to keep her on the phone, i didnt wanna have to hang up %( I should get out more.

I got an email from my broski from Rochester, Pete. He’s doing good, he’s funny… but it’s good I can keep in touch with him, since I only knew him for such a short time in real life and we seemed to get along really well.

Anyway, we’re gonna get going soon… prolly out to dinner somewhere, yay getting out of the house! %) so in the words of my broski Pete:

So I have a new crusade concerning web standards, w3c.org validation on my webpages. I figured it would be about a day’s work to make my html perfect (with the exception of the front page for the time being, since php nuke obviously doesnt conform to those standards, i wont be using nuke for much longer however…). Little did I realize how strict perfect html pages are. In short, my pages are a mess. AND I have a big site… this could take weeks. But I suppose it’ll be worth it, I got one, single, tiny, mostly text page validated this morning… %)

Other than that I guess I’m not doing much. Myk wants to mess around with LEAF, a debian based firewall this weekend so we’ll prolly be home all weekend again *shrugs*

On the bright side Myk fixed the 10 gig harddrive that went in clockbot (it has other drives too…) and I complained that I don’t have enough room on my windows drive. Shame on me? Naw I just use windows for games… and games are big %) So I needed more than 12 gigs for all the games we always play at lan parties. So last night he put the drive in r2. So now he has 3 harddrives. 40 gig for linux, 12 gig for main windows and 10 gig for windows slave.

And I am gonna look around a bit this weekend for a good deal on a 1.2 ghz processor (pentium 3, sorry all you AMD enthusiests, and no, i dont want to have a debate about which is better) and a motherboard to match that can handle sd ram. Shouldn’t be too hard %) but that’s what Myk said he’d get me for my birthday since r2 is still only a 450 mhz computer %D

Moody Blues – Your Wildest Dreams

I spent most of today writing a letter to my father, in responce to the one he wrote a few weeks ago. It took a lot of thought so it took a very long time to write.

I finished reading Dune last night:

Dune, Frank Herbert, 537 pages

Dune is the story of the desert planet of Arrakis’ people recieving their “Messiah” and using the poer given through him to gain freedom from Imperial control of their planet. It’s been made into two movies, and has won many notable awards, and I was very impressed. In a single book Herbert manages to encompass a complex ruling system, a religion, and story to create a very tangible
world. By constantly focusing on the thoughts of various characters he is able to develop the characters quickly and give us a very clear idea of their intents. Very well written, I can see why there are so many sequels though, the storys has only just begun!


Othere than that not much has been happening like usual. Yesterday the power went out where Myk works. He works right next to a Navy base so they think that had something to do with it, it being the 11th and all… they did panic at first of course. Myk ended up coming home in the afternoon for a few hours ’cause there was nothing to do at work… went back around 3 to check if the power had come back on and it had… so he stayed at work til about 7:30 then came home and we had pizza %D! Watched Toy Story 2 ’cause Myk had never seen it and I hadnt seen it in a while.

Oh and a friend of mine is zipping the contents of all his halflife cds and sending me the zip files %D! All i need to do is burn what’s in the zip onto a disk and install it that way… it really will work, apparently he tried it last night %) It’ll be kewl to play Half-Life with some people online %)

But noew I am gonna wander off and do something productive *wanders*
